Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, Prep Cashmere—formerly known as DatBoiDrumma—developed a deep love for music early in childhood. Inspired by his older cousin Ray, he began crafting beats and writing lyrics at a young age, laying the foundation for a prolific career that would eventually earn him recognition as one of Mississippi’s top producers and artists.

Prep’s journey through various music groups and record label experiences helped shape his leadership and artistic vision, ultimately leading to the founding of TraXtar Records and Beat 2 Sleep Productionz. These Mississippi-based labels have become known for producing high-quality music and launching influential regional talent. In 2005, TraXtar Records released its first compilation album, "Da Life, Da Luv, Da Luxury," featuring artists from the label and notable collaborations including Young Bleed (Body Head Entertainment) and Kamikaze (Crooked Lettaz).

Prep also produced the Mississippi Artists and Producers (M.A.P.) Coalition CD, Volume 2, a showcase of regional talent. He’s widely respected for his work with a range of Southern artists and has produced tracks for major acts such as David Banner, Boo Da Boss Playa, Layzie Bone, Young Bleed, and Jazze Pha. Notably, he is the true producer behind Jamie Foxx’s breakout hit single “Unpredictable.”

In recent years, Prep Cashmere has found a new passion in Southern Soul music, a genre that Mississippi has now been officially recognized as the birthplace of. Prep is proudly noted as one of the founding artists in this powerful cultural movement.

His latest project, "GEMINI...Must Be 2 Sides," is scheduled for release on September 11, 2024, and marks a creative evolution into a fusion of Southern Soul and Country music. The lead single, "BOOTWALK REBOOTED," features the legendary Jazze Pha and incorporates a bold sample of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Were Made For Walking.” With its energetic beat and viral line dance, the track is quickly becoming a nationwide sensation.

The follow-up single, "SouthernSoul Pressha," delivers a smooth, groovy sound paired with its own signature line dance. The GEMINI album as a whole captures the two powerful sides of Prep Cashmere’s artistry—raw, bass-driven energy and soulful, melodic storytelling.
